I don't get it why people so undermine this movie. It was indeed predictable most of the time but come on, there were many moment of laughter.
I saw this movie with an ex girlfriend and we were seeing many moments we had on our first dates and we enjoyed to see it was inspired from real facts. Many of the comical situations do happen in real life and it really gets to you when you see it from outside.
The main plot may be a little exaggerated, how everything comes together but it's a classic date movie and you cannot have such high expectations from it.
The cast is OK, even though Jennifer Lopez is a little overpowered by her role, but she manages in the end to pull it of. Alex O'Loughlin is the perfect "I don't know if I want to be a father but I love this woman" guy and makes every moment a real delight.
Everyone gives it a 4 or 5, I give it an 8 because you can have a blast if you watch it with your girlfriend or ex.

Predictable but totally laughable!
Pretty run of the mill
The Back up Plan is a pretty run of the mill, generic romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez. It's not all bad, don't get me wrong, it's just not like amazing or incredible. Let me just say from the get go, Melissa McCarthy was by far the best and funniest part of this entire film! Whenever she came on screen I busted out laughing, especially the birth scene. That scene was absolutely hilarious! The romance and chemistry between the two main lead characters was good, the intimate scenes between them were well done, and the scene previous to the sex scene where she orgasms without sex because of hormones is hilarious lol. I thought that was kinda clever. The problems come in when the film reaches about mid way through, it does drag a bit. The movie kind of slows down and gets a little boring. That's the movie's biggest flaw by far. And I would say the movie's biggest success is, like I somewhat mentioned earlier, Melissa McCarthy, she freaking slays in this movie. 6/10.
limited rom-com gets worst and worst
Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) is a successful single NYC gal and has given up finding the perfect man. She goes to have artificial insemination. Her friend harried mom Mona (Michaela Watkins) warns against it. Clive (Eric Christian Olsen) refuses to contribute. After insemination, she fights Stan (Alex O'Loughlin) for a cab. Carol (Melissa McCarthy) leads the single mom support group. She runs into Stan who is selling cheese at the farmer's market. Despite being pursued by muffin girl Olivia (Danneel Harris), Stan falls for Zoe. After being told about her pregnancy, Stan befriends a dad (Anthony Anderson) at the playground.
Lopez and O'Loughlin have limited chemistry and the story doesn't help. Lopez tries hard but she has to keep asking if he's leaving. It doesn't allow for the chemistry to build. There are some good comedic talents here. None of that can save this badly conceived movie.
